The Importance of Switching Up Your Protein Powder - and my protein powder of choice

Let’s talk protein rotation!

When you consume the same foods daily for extended periods of time (yes I’m referring to the good old chicken broccoli and rice diet here) it’s possible for your body to build up intolerances to those foods. This is also true for your protein powder. Although far from a full blown allergy, your body can stop producing enzymes that break down and utilise the protein instead, leaving you feeling bloated and gassy as well as limiting those ‘gains’ you’re chasing.

Rotating protein powders every 4 weeks is a useful tool in avoiding such intolerances.

Let me give you a quick run-down on protein powder.

Protein powders are a dietary supplement derived from a variety of sources including the most common;

Milk

Rice

Pea

Hemp

Soy

Beef

Egg

Blends of the above

Protein powders are created by extracting the protein component from the wholefood source.

This can be done through a variety of methods creating different products. These include;

Protein Concentrate

Protein Isolates

Hydrolysed Protein

Microfiltration

Ion Exchange

One of the first things I do with all my clients is transition them to using a PLANT BASED PROTEIN POWDER. Why?

Plant based protein powders get all their protein from, you guessed it, PLANTS!

Plant based proteins have been proven to be just as effective as other protein powders with the added bonus of the plants helping to bring balance to our health and bodies!

They also help the earth, are allergy free, add fibre to your diet, boost metabolism, alkalise your body, are full of vitamins and minerals and contain zero growth hormones or antibiotics.

Removing dairy from your diet (whey protein) can be extremely beneficial in regulating hormones and assisting with thyroid function as well as boosting fat loss.

And the single most important reason (to me anyway) is that no animals were harmed in the making of plant based protein!

So, many of you ask me what brand plant protein I use and recommend? My answer to this (and has been for the last 4 years) is Prana On www.pranaon.com.au

Their range includes pea and rice protein blends as well as pea only protein and their newest range hemp protein. Having this variety makes it possible for me to cycle through the different protein sources on a regular basis and maintain an optimal response from my body.

Prana On have the most delicious flavours, with my personal favourites being the Hazelnut Cacao in the Primal Protein range (a range designed for anyone looking for a completely grain-free protein, especially important for those oestrogen dominant ladies or those with sluggish thyroids), the Choc Cherry Coconut in the new Tribal Force range (this is made from hemp protein and also contains super foods Maca and Sacha Inchi) and the Iced Mocha in the Phyto Fire range (packed full of the fat burning properties of Matcha Green Tea, L-Carnatine and Green Coffee Beans). These are my just a few of my favourite. Prana On also stock a mass building protein Natural Mass and their base range Plant Power protein.

Prana On is an Australian based company utilising organic, vegan and wholefood ingredients to compliment fitness goals while maintaining optimal health. They also stock a range of products other than protein powders one of which I use daily, the Super Greens formula! Highly recommend… but that’s for another post..

Their range is super tasty, mixes well with water or nut milk and makes a delicious Avocado Mousse!! In fact, I will include a super simple and delicious recipe below for you to try.

So with all these benefits and honestly, zero negatives. My question to you is why are you NOT using Prana On products?
